The most romantic getaways in Scotland

Scotland is one of the most romantic places to visit in the world – a land of beautiful coastlines, ancient castles and hideaways made for switching off together.

Whether you’re planning Valentines, a honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary, or simply craving a weekend away with the one you love, these are my favourite romantic getaways in Scotland.

From castles and luxury hotels to cabins and treehouses, here are some of my favourite places to stay in Scotland.

Let’s check in.

The Queen’s Hut, Aboyne

Best for: a classic Highland hideaway

Hidden in the heart of Royal Deeside, this beautifully positioned luxury log cabin sits on the edge of its own tree-lined loch, with views stretching towards the Cairngorm Mountains.

Whether you’re indulging in the deep copper bath, or lighting a fire beside the loch, this is a space made for switching off together.

A rambling woodland path leads from the cabin to a rather excellent country pub, and with Aberdeenshire, Deeside and Speyside all close by, The Queen’s Hut makes an ideal base for a romantic rural escape in Scotland.

The Torridon Hotel, Wester Ross

Best for: dramatic landscapes and Michelin-starred dining

Set beneath towering mountains on Scotland’s wild west coast, The Torridon is a five-star boutique Highland hotel in one of the most dramatic locations in the country.

With its own herd of Highland cows, a Michelin-starred restaurant, an exceptional whisky bar, the Torridon Inn next door and a full outdoor activity centre, this is a destination in its own right.

Spend days canoeing on Loch Torridon, scrambling gorges or simply soaking up the views, before returning to fireside drinks and outstanding food. It’s the Highlands’ answer to a spa retreat, invigorating, indulgent and utterly unforgettable.

If you’re looking for romantic getaways in Scotland that feel remote, indulgent and deeply relaxing, this next stay is hard to beat.

The Birdwatcher’s Cabin, Golspie

Best for: seclusion & slow luxury on the North Coast 500

Tucked away on the shores of Loch Fleet near Dunrobin Castle, the Birdwatcher’s Cabin is a beautifully designed luxury hideaway that feels like a secret you almost want to keep to yourself.

This minimalist cabin is all about understated comfort. Inside, you’ll find a rainfall shower lined with local Caithness slate, soft neutral tones, cosy blankets and an incredibly comfortable bed, perfect for slow mornings and long, lazy lie-ins.

Located on the North Coast 500, it’s an ideal choice for couples seeking a peaceful and romantic cabin in Scotland, where the only decision is whether to pour another glass of wine or watch the light change over the loch.

Bracken Treehouse at Airdit, Fife

Best for: a grown-up treehouse stay

Set high above 30 acres of private woodland, Bracken Treehouse is a beautifully designed, adults-only hideaway offering a peaceful and indulgent escape in rural Fife, close to the coast.

The standout feature, and my favourite part, is the large outdoor bath on the deck, perfectly positioned for long, lazy soaks among the treetops.

Inside, the design is warm and modern, while the king-sized bed sits beneath a stargazing skylight, turning bedtime into an experience in itself. Between evenings in the outdoor bath and mornings waking up to the trees, this is romance done beautifully.

The Boathouses, Loch Tay

Best for: lochside romance

Perched right on the water’s edge, the Loch Tay Boathouses, Osprey, Oyster and Dipper, are stunning Scandinavian-style retreats designed for total escapism.

Hidden away on the lochside, this is romantic seclusion at its very best. Each boathouse comes with its own private beach, ideal for candlelit barbecues, early-morning swims or watching red squirrels wander past at breakfast.

Evenings are made for lighting candles, cooking delicious local produce (Aberfeldy’s butchers are excellent), pouring a glass of fizz and watching the ever-changing views across the loch.

Neidpath Castle, Peebles

Best for: a fairytale castle stay

Ever dreamed of staying in a castle in Scotland? Neidpath Castle offers the chance to check into a spectacular luxury suite within a beautifully restored 12th-century tower house overlooking the River Tweed.

Your stay includes a four-poster bed, roaring fires, a roll-top bath and all the modern comforts you’d expect, with the unforgettable bonus of having the entire castle, including its ancient ramparts, completely to yourselves.

Queen Mary’s Chamber is far more than a hotel room. It’s dramatic, romantic and wonderfully atmospheric, making it one of the most unique romantic getaways in Scotland.
