Hello! I’m Kate Hopper, a travel writer and photographer, and the person behind Love from Scotland.
I moved to Scotland in 1996, I live in Fife, and I’ve spent the last 30 years since exploring the country, from the fishing villages of the East Neuk to the mountains of Assynt.
Love from Scotland is my independent guide to travelling Scotland – where to go, where to stay, where to eat, and which walks are worth lacing your boots for.

Why you can trust what I recommend
- I’ve been to every place I write about. If I haven’t been somewhere yet (Shetland and Bute are still on my list), you won’t find a guide to it here.
- I say when something was free. If a stay or experience was complimentary, or a link is an affiliate link, I tell you on the page. No disclosure means I paid for it myself, and much of my travel is self-funded.
- Every word and photo is mine, unless it’s credited to someone else.
- I keep my guides up to date. I review them regularly, and each one shows the date it was last updated. Spotted something out of date? Tell me and I’ll fix it.

A bit about me
I grew up in a tiny village on the edge of the Peak District and made Scotland my home in 1996. I say “aye”, “wee” and “coo” and drink Irn-Bru, but I’ve yet to get the accent.
I’m a keen hillwalker and Munro bagger. My favourite corners of Scotland are the East Neuk of Fife for the food, Assynt for the mountains and beaches, the Moray Firth coast for its fishing villages and huge skies, and the Isle of Islay, because I love whisky.
