Spoilers ahead for Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Read at your own risk.
Blood of My Blood, the Outlander prequel, premiered on Starz in August 2025, and season two began streaming on 18 September 2026, with new episodes weekly until 20 November.
The prequel follows two parallel romances across two centuries – Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie and Claire Beauchamp’s parents, Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston in 18th-century Scotland.
This is my guide and map of every confirmed Blood of My Blood filming location in Scotland, updated as season two airs. Where to find them, what to expect, and how to fit them into a road trip alongside the main Outlander filming locations. I’ll add new locations as each episode reveals them.

↑ Back to mapTweeddale Court
Almost opposite Bakehouse Close, this is where Claire and Jamie meet Fergus after their reunion. Off the High Street, near the World's End pub.
↑ Back to mapThe Signet Library
The society ball from season three. It's a working legal library, so the way in is to book afternoon tea at Colonnades downstairs.

The old veterinary anatomy lecture theatre where Claire starts her medical studies and meets Joe Abernathy. It opens for events and tours rather than every day, so check what's on.

↑ Back to mapPark Terrace
The London street where Henry Beauchamp lives. It's residential, so be considerate. Ten minutes' walk from Kelvingrove Art Gallery.
↑ Back to mapPark Circus
The exterior of Julia Moriston's flat, five minutes from Park Terrace. These are people's homes, so keep it quick and quiet.

Several of these are private homes, working estates and war graves, so go quietly, park considerately and stick to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Where was Blood of My Blood filmed?
Blood of My Blood was filmed almost entirely in Scotland. Location shoots took place across the central belt and into Perthshire and Fife. Season two filmed from June to December 2025, returning to Doune, Balvaird, Culross and Kinloch Rannoch, and adding Blackness Castle on the Firth of Forth.

Blood of My Blood filming locations in central Scotland
Doune Castle (Castle Leoch)
Castle Leoch is back in Blood of my Blood, and filming once again took place at Doune Castle. The MacKenzie clan seat sits on the River Teith between Stirling and Callander, and is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Scotland.
Most of episode one was filmed at Doune Castle, including the gathering after the funeral of Red Jacob and the scene where Brian Fraser arrives at Leoch.
Season two update: Doune closed for around a week in autumn 2025 for filming. Leoch is central again from the first episode, “Remembrance Day”. Ellen returns home to face her brothers, and Colum has her locked in the chapel.
Doune is one of the only Outlander filming locations where you can actually go inside, and the experience is brilliant. Pick up the audio guide narrated by Sam Heughan and tune into the dedicated Outlander tour.
Doune Castle is managed by Historic Environment Scotland. Adults £10 online (£11 at the gate), free for members. Limited parking on site, so consider the village car parks when busy.

Balvaird Castle (Castle Leathers)
Balvaird Castle, a small 15th-century tower house perched on a ridge in the Ochil Hills of Perthshire, becomes Castle Leathers in the prequel. Castle Leathers is the home of Lord Lovat, Brian Fraser’s father. This is where Brian lives with his mother and housekeeper Davina Porter, and where Julia Moriston is later employed after she becomes separated from Henry.
Season two update: crews were back at Balvaird in early November 2025. In the premiere, Brian and Murtagh return to Leathers to answer Lord Lovat’s call to arms, and Julia is forced back under his roof with baby William.
The interior of the castle is derelict and was not used for filming (those scenes were shot at Bannockburn House and Wardpark Studios), but the exterior is intact and free to visit.
Free, open access. Off the M90 or A91 near Abernethy. About 20 minutes’ drive from Perth, 25 minutes from Glenrothes. Wear sensible shoes as the ground is uneven and often muddy. Find out more about Balvaird Castle.
Bannockburn House (Lady Nairn’s home and Castle Leathers interiors)
Bannockburn House, a 17th-century mansion just south of Stirling, is one of the most-used interior locations in Blood of My Blood. The house plays Lady Nairn’s home, where the Jacobite meeting with Rob Roy is held in the episode “Luceo Non Uro,” and it doubles as the interiors of Castle Leathers when we move inside Brian Fraser’s family seat. The Laigh Hall and the Bonnie Prince Charlie Bedchamber both feature.
Bannockburn House is now offering rare guided tours through the rooms used in the show. The tour is led by the head of conservation and runs through the Outlander filming rooms, the Jacobite history of the house, the connection to Bonnie Prince Charlie (who stayed here during the ’45), and the restoration story.
Check the Bannockburn House website for dates and tickets.
Kilbride Castle Chapel (the Fraser chapel)
Hidden in the countryside near Dunblane is the small Kilbride Castle Chapel, which features as the Fraser family chapel in Blood of My Blood. You’ll see this chapel in many scenes with Julia, Simon Fraser, Davina, Brian and a young Murtagh.
The chapel is on a private working estate and is reached via single-track lanes with passing places. Parking by the entry gate is very limited. The chapel itself is small but atmospheric. Drive carefully and park considerately.

Blackness Castle (new for season two)
Blackness Castle, the “ship that never sailed” on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, is the big new addition for season two. The castle closed to visitors from 29 September to 19 October 2025 while crews moved in. Camera cranes were visible on site, and boards were laid over the grass in front of the castle.
Starz hasn’t confirmed what Blackness plays in the prequel. Journalists on set that October watched a rescue mission being filmed at a “craggy seaside castle”, which sounds very familiar. Outlander fans will know Blackness as Fort William, Black Jack Randall’s headquarters. I’ll update this section as soon as it appears on screen.
Blackness Castle is managed by Historic Environment Scotland. It’s around 10 minutes from Linlithgow and 15 minutes from Midhope Castle, so the two pair up easily. Check the HES website for current prices and opening times.
Blood of My Blood filming locations in Fife
Melville House (Bowmont House, the Grant residence)
Melville House, near Letham in Fife, becomes Bowmont House, the ancestral seat of the Clan Grant. The exterior of Melville House appears in season one episode one, when Henry Beauchamp arrives at the Grant residence to act as the Bladier (clan negotiator) for the Laird, Isaac Grant.
Melville House itself is private property.

Culross Abbey House (Nairn Palace)
In Blood of My Blood, the home of Lady Nairn (the woman holding the secret Jacobite meeting attended by Rob Roy) is split across two locations. The interiors are Bannockburn House. The exteriors are Culross Abbey House, a private mansion adjacent to Culross Abbey at the top of the village.
Culross Abbey House itself is not open to the public, but the adjacent Culross Abbey is, and the views from the abbey grounds let you see the mansion next door. The walk up from the Mercat Cross to the Abbey is one of the best in Culross, with views across the Firth of Forth from the top.
Culross Abbey is managed by Historic Environment Scotland. Free, open access. The Abbey House next door is private and visible from the Abbey grounds.
Season two update: filming returned to Culross in autumn 2025. We don’t yet know what the village plays this time.
Read more – my full guide to Culross, Outlander’s Cranesmuir and now a Blood of My Blood location.

Midhope Castle (Lallybroch)
Midhope Castle on the Hopetoun Estate is widely expected to feature in Blood of My Blood season two. Brian and Ellen seem certain to marry, and Brian’s role as the new Laird of Lallybroch is the obvious next step in their story arc. As of the season two premiere, the move to Lallybroch hasn’t happened on screen yet. Midhope is the same castle that plays Lallybroch in the main Outlander series.
The interior of Midhope Castle was historically derelict and inaccessible. As of 2026, the interior is being refurbished and is opening to visitors for the first time. Midhope Castle is on the Hopetoun Estate near South Queensferry. Standard tickets are £6 for exterior access. Around 25 minutes’ drive from central Edinburgh.
Blood of My Blood filming locations in Loch Lomond
Luss village (Highland settlement)
Luss village, on the western shore of Loch Lomond, was transformed into an 18th-century Highland settlement for Blood of My Blood. Luss appears as the location of clan gatherings, the tynchal (the traditional Highland deer hunt), and the Beltane celebrations.
Luss is one of the most photographed villages in Scotland and is busy in summer. Visit early or on a weekday for a quieter experience. Luss is on the A82, around an hour from Glasgow and 90 minutes from Edinburgh. Free village car park (paid in summer).
Blood of My Blood filming locations in Highland Perthshire
The Blood of My Blood bridge (where Brian and Ellen meet)
Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie’s first meeting takes place on a small stone bridge over a Highland burn. In real life, the bridge is on the Glenartney Estate, in the hills south west of Comrie in Highland Perthshire.
The location was kept quiet for some time after season one aired, but several Outlander tour operators are now running guided visits to the bridge, and the directions have been published online.
The walk in is around 20 minutes each way. Park at Glenartney Church, walk approximately 500 metres back along the road to a white estate gate, then follow the estate track on foot. The bridge appears down to your right after about 20 minutes. The track is rough underfoot, so wear walking boots.
Access is under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code on a working estate, so please go quietly, take all litter home, close all gates, and leave the bridge exactly as you find it. The location is fragile and the only reason it’s still accessible is that visitors so far have treated it with respect.
Kinloch Rannoch (Craigh na Dun)
The fictional stone circle at Craigh na Dun returns in Blood of My Blood. The stones themselves were a film set installed on a remote outcrop above Kinloch Rannoch in Highland Perthshire and removed after filming. But the outcrop itself is still there, and the views across Loch Rannoch and the surrounding mountains are spectacular.
Season two update: Craigh na Dun opens the new season. We learn that Henry went through the stones alone and was found nearby in 1924, while Julia and William were left behind in 1715.
The outcrop is on private estate land but accessible under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Park in Kinloch Rannoch village and walk up. Around 2 hours’ drive from Edinburgh.
Blood of My Blood filming locations in Glasgow
Park Terrace (the London street)
Park Terrace, was used as the London street where Henry Beauchamp lives. It’s a real residential area, so visitors should be respectful, but the architecture is identical to what you saw on screen. Park Terrace is a 10-minute walk from Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
Park Circus (Julia’s flat)
Park Circus, the elegant Victorian crescent next to Park Terrace, was used as the exterior of Julia Moriston’s London flat. 5 minutes from Park Terrace.
Kelvingrove Park Garden Steps (Henry and Julia’s first kiss)
Henry returns from the trenches of the First World War, and after months of letters Julia waits for him at the top of a set of garden steps in London. In real life, those steps are in Kelvingrove Park, just south of Park Circus in Glasgow’s West End. Look for the elaborate flight of garden stairs leading up from the park towards Park Terrace.
Other Glasgow streets
Road closure notices from the 2024 shoot also listed Woodlands Terrace, next to Park Circus, and Balmoral Street in Scotstoun. It isn’t clear which scenes were filmed there.
Blood of My Blood season two locations
Season two premiered on 18 September 2026 and runs weekly until 20 November. Confirmed locations so far are Doune Castle (Castle Leoch), Balvaird Castle (Castle Leathers), Kinloch Rannoch (Craigh na Dun), Culross, and Blackness Castle, which is new for the prequel.
Still to be identified are the Inverness asylum where Henry wakes in 1924 and the home of Reverend Wakefield and Mrs Graham. With the season building towards the 1715 Rising and the Battle of Sheriffmuir, expect battlefield and encampment locations too. Brian and Ellen’s move to Lallybroch hasn’t happened on screen yet, so Midhope Castle remains “expected” for now.
How to plan a Blood of My Blood filming locations tour
Most of the prequel’s locations sit within an hour’s drive of Edinburgh or Glasgow, which makes a road trip realistic.
