Tyninghame Beach

Whether the sun is shining or the wind is blowing right through, there few places that bring a smile to my face in quite the same way as Tyninghame Beach.

When the sun is shining there few places that bringΒ aΒ smile to my face in quite the same way as Tyninghame Beach. Otherwise known asΒ Ravensheugh Sands, Tyninghame might not have the drama ofΒ SeacliffΒ with its brooding castle orΒ YellowcraigsΒ with Fidra Lighthouse, but instead, it has a quiet wild charm all of its own – and that is fine with me. Walk through the woods along one of the many paths which wind their way through the links, finally emerging out onto the huge sandy bay with dramatic views of the Bass Rock.

How to visit Tyninghame Beach

Like most of the East Lothian beaches, finding them is half the fun. For Tyninghame, search forΒ Limetree Walk Dunbar. Drive to the end of the lane. You can park all day for Β£2. Nearly all the paths go to the beach. If you find the Harvest Moon glamping site turn back! Tyninghame Beach always feels a little isolated, that you are getting lost, for the beach is away from the car park and the road. Keep going, you will find it. Even when it’s full of happy families and dogs and kites and surfers, you feel like you’ve made it somewhere special. Don’t believe me? Then go.

Look no hat!

Where to eat near Tyninghame Beach

I have many places on my ‘dream future home’ list and the cute conservation village of Tyninghame, where even the new homes look like they have been there for over a hundred years, is one of them. The Tyninghame Smithy does a roaring trade in coffee & scones served outside in its courtyard.

We’d popped in before our walk for takeaway sandwiches to eat on the beach.

I HATE to say this, but my future house has serious #doorgoals

When I was a wee girl our family used to go on outings to a beach somewhere behind a golf course near Aberlady, it was a long walk to get there but nobody else was normally there. We called it Shell Bay, it was amazing, there would normally be two or three car loads of us with far more the five persons per car. That was the 80’s.

Aberlady Beach is lovely, plus there is a submarine there too. I really should go back soon to take some photos πŸ™‚

Shell Bay is still very much a thing! I grew up in Aberlady and it was one of my favourite places πŸ™‚

Looks beautiful. I do love the coast. Living near Perth I feel like we get the best of everything – not far from mountains, lochs and beaches. Perfect.

    Lovely photos too

I know that there was a marriage in the old town hall. They gutted the place and added candles to make it rustic. It was very charming and magical! These old stone buildings are beautiful – my Mum loves the Old Smithy and the village itself too!

We parked right outside the hall, I’d been thinking it great for a wedding too (might get married again – to B of course!)

It’s really lovely inside – just needs a little imagination and you are in for a treat! Could put you in contact with someone in the know as she did the catering for this wedding and mine – she could get you in touch with the relevant people xx

Yes, it does look like a good spot for a wedding, though maybe a little breezy. πŸ™‚ I don’t know any of the beaches up that coast, Smidge, but this one does look lovely. Many thanks for sharing.
